appliqué tutorial
We know that the 'idle acts as a secondary effect reflecting on the various issues including the appliqué :-) or better ways to run it, so far I have almost always made the appliqué by hand, rarely machine stitch or zig-zag as the results I was never happy with everything.
stroll through the blogs of quilters American and Australian (!!!!!!) are far ahead these days I tried it and devised one that currently seems to appliqué technique that combines speed and almost perfectly perfection ( eh got a little 'manic on this thing).
Encouraged by a friend of mine, I decided to publish this tutorial.
What follows is intended to be somewhat of a summary of various "tricks and tips" encountered during my voyages, and that is why I wish to equally thank all the authors of those blogs from which I took inspiration.
This material required:
-Freezer paper-scissors to
paper-scissors to fabric
-fret board on appliqué
- Glue-bast (can be found at various sites such as online purchases. www.direfarequiltare.it)
-pencil with a fine tip
-transparent nylon thread
-a stick of cotton swab (or brush)
-a-bowl
spray starch (if desired also to be dissolved in water)
1) Restore the dull side of freezer paper form to apply in my case a leaf, cut out the leaf, carefully following the margins.
2) Place the leaf with the shiny side in contact with the backside of the cloth
3) with the bra stretch briefly freezer paper until it adheres temporarily
4) then cut along the leaf, leaving at least 1 / 4 margin of cloth so that it can bend
5) Cut out the form to be used, sprayed into the bowl a bit 'starch Corn
6) after the cotton swab soaked nell'amido, proceed to dampen the cloth being careful not to wet the freezer paper.
7) with the help of the bra fold the cloth until it dries, so the margins will remain perfectly folded.
8) Now remove the freezer paper
margins folded put a few drops of glue-bast stops to take a leaf while stitching. (The glue they use is very light and is used especially by the U.S. because of the appliqué, you remove a little sprinkling 'of water or by immersing the finished block in a bowl with a little water)
and position the leaf on the fabric background.
9) At this point we proceed with the sewing machine to the point invisible appliqué. To do this you must use transparent nylon thread above and below a white wire in the coil or matching the color of the fabric base.
Owning a Bernina 440QE instructions point will obviously be based on this model.
If you can lower thread bobbin try to pass it through the little hole that is located in the capsule in order to get a perfect tension
The foot is the number 20, the selected point is # 7
the length and width of the paragraph should be amended in order to obtain small dots. Personally I got the result better with a 0.9 stitch width and length 1.00.
10) Then proceed to the real point at your own speed at a fairly low so you have full control of the fabric. In this task you need to pay particular attention to dropping the needle just flush with the edge of the leaf itself
when the zig-zag needle will take only a few threads of the fabric of the leaf. (It's harder said than done, believe me)
Once the perimeter of the leaf is ready for your appliqué, perfect as handmade and much more fast.
I hope to be helpful and happy quilting to all!
